An organization is the "account" your invoices, payment methods, team, and resources all live under. When you signed up, the portal made you one automatically - your personal organization. You only need to create a new one when you want a separate billing identity (for example, a company on top of your personal account), a separate team, or to keep a client or side project completely walled off.
Before you start
- You can own up to 2 organizations per account. If you already own two, you'll need to delete or transfer one before you can create another.
- You can still be a member of more than two - only ownership is capped. Being invited into someone else's organization doesn't count toward your limit.
- For a business organization, have your legal entity name, billing address, and (if you're in a VAT region) your VAT or tax ID ready.
1. Open the organization switcher
- Look at the sidebar on the left side of the portal.
- At the very top of the sidebar, just under the Synteq logo, click the organization switcher button - it shows the active organization's name and a small building icon.
- A dropdown opens listing every organization you belong to.
2. Start the create flow
Click New organization.
3. Name the organization, and add people in
Name the organization [1], then invite people into it [2]. Don't forget to select the appropriate permissions for everyone [3]. Then click the `Add` button
4. Pick the organization type
At the top of the form, there's a toggle with two options.
- Personal: pick this if the organization is just for you. Invoices will use your full name. The legal-entity fields are hidden because they don't apply.
- Business: pick this if the organization belongs to a company. You'll fill in a legal entity name, and billing address. Invoices will show the company name.
You can't change this later from the form itself - contact support if you need to flip an organization between personal and business.
4. Fill in the details
Fill in all of the Billing details (business only): legal entity name, billing address, VAT or tax ID where applicable. You can update most of these later from Organization > Settings > Billing, but the legal entity name and billing country are best set correctly now
5. Create it
- Click Create at the bottom of the form.
- The portal switches you into the new organization automatically. The sidebar updates, and the active organization in the switcher now shows the name you just typed.
You're now operating in the new organization. Your personal organization (and any others) are still there - switch into them any time from the same switcher at the top of the sidebar.
What changes from here
- The new organization shows up in your switcher and in Profile > Organizations.
- You're the Owner of it. You can invite people, add payment methods, and create projects.
- Resources still need to live in a project, and the new organization starts with zero projects - create one before you can order servers. See Creating a Project.
- Before you can order paid services, the organization needs a payment method. See Adding a Payyment Method.
What's next
- Inviting a team member: bring teammates in.
- Creating a project: projects live inside an organization and group related resources.
- Adding a Payment Method: required before you can order paid services.
Limits to know
- You can own at most 2 organizations per account.
- Each organization can hold up to 3 projects by default. If you need more, contact support.
