Closing Your Account

Updated

Closing your account is permanent. We'd rather you didn't, but if you do need to, the form lives on the Account tab of Settings. Read the "Before you start" list below first - the portal will block the closure if anything on it isn't sorted.

Before you start

The portal won't let you close your account while any organization you own still has unresolved billing or running services. Take care of all of these first:

  • No active resources. Cancel or terminate every running service in every team you own.
  • No outstanding invoices. Pay or void every open invoice.
  • No unspent credit balances. Apply credits to a final invoice, or void them. Please note, we do not refund credits due to account closure.

Teams you're a member of (but don't own) are not affected. To leave one of those, go to the team's member list and remove yourself, or transfer ownership to someone else first.

We also recommend exporting your data before you close, just so you have a copy. The Download export button is on the same page as the close form.

1. Open the Account tab

  1. Click your profile button at the bottom of the sidebar. The small upward menu opens.
  2. Click Settings. The Account Settings page opens on the Account tab.

  1. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. You'll see the Close Account card. It has a red warning icon, a checklist of the conditions above, and a Close Account button.

2. Start the closure

  1. Click Close Account.
  2. The portal checks the teams you own for blockers. If anything is in the way, a dialog titled Resolve these before closing opens, listing each problem with a link to the page where you can fix it.
  3. Click each link, fix the problem, then come back here and click Close Account again.
  4. Once nothing is blocking, the Close account confirmation dialog opens.

3. Confirm

The confirmation dialog asks for three things, in order:

  1. Type your email address to confirm - type the email that's currently on your account, exactly. Capital letters don't matter, but the address itself has to match.
  2. Current password: type your current password when the prompt appears.
  3. Slide to close account: drag the slider at the bottom of the dialog all the way to the right.

As soon as the slider reaches the end, the portal deactivates your account. The card on the page is replaced with an Account Closed notice, and you're signed out a moment later. You can't sign back in.

What's deleted

Once the closure goes through, your account is marked inactive. From that moment:

  • You can't sign in with your email or with any linked SSO provider (Google, GitHub, etc.).
  • Any API keys you created stop working immediately.
  • Personal organizations you owned no longer have a login attached and become inaccessible.

If you change your mind right away, contact support. Recovery is sometimes possible before the data-deletion job runs in the background. Once that job has run, recovery is no longer possible.
